Usain and Hellen win in Monaco
21st July 2017 – Current Olympic medallists Usain Bolt (JAM) and Hellen Obiri (KEN) were amongst the winners at the latest round of the IAAF Diamond League in Monaco.
In his final appearance at a one-day event, Usain showed that he is rounding into shape to defend his world title in London next month with victory in the 100m in a time if 9.95 seconds.
Hellen continues to show a combination of speed and strength that others are finding hard to match as she took another convincing victory in the 3000m on this occasion. Her winning time of 8:23.14 moved her to the top of 2017 world list. Shannon Rowbury (USA) ran a seasons best of 8:33.38 in sixth place.
Shamier Little (USA) is also in a fine form and she took second place here in the 400m hurdles in a time of 54.02 seconds. Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) made a big step forward in her recovery from injury, running under 23 seconds when placing third in the 200m.
Earlier in the week, there were victories for Perri Shakes-Drayton (GBR) over 400m in Novo-Mesto and Laura Roesler (USA) over 800m in Cork.
At the Ugandan Championships in Kampala there was a sprint finish in the 10,000m between two PACE athletes, Timothy Toroitich (UGA) and Moses Kipsiro (UGA). Timothy prevailed on this occasion, but just 0.2 of second separated the two after 25 laps of running! Consequently, Timothy has been selected to represent Uganda at the World Championships.
