Three season bests in Rome.
6th June 2019 – The fourth stop on this years IAAF Diamond League tour was in Rome and the famous overlooking marble statues would have approved of the high quality races and performances the athletes produced.
Shamier Little (USA) made her first appearance in Europe this year and came away with second place and a season’s best time of 54.40 seconds in the women’s 400m hurdles. Dina Asher-Smirh (GBR) was disappointed to lose her 2019 unbeaten record but was still satisfied with a time of 10.94 seconds and second place in her opening 100m. Jenna Prandini (USA) was just outside her seasons best of 11.17 seconds for fifth place.
There was great depth in both the women’s 1500m and the men’s 5000m for Winny Chebet (KEN) and Bethwel Birgen (KEN) to contend with. Winny was tenth in 4:03.86 and Bethwel ran his second fastest 5000m ever of 13:10.21 for the twelfth.
