Diamond League back on tour
21st August 2021 – After a break for the Tokyo Olympic Games the World Athletics Diamond League circuit flew back into action with a meet of exceptional quality in Eugene, the city and stadium that will host next years World Athletics Championships.
Olympic silver medallist Fred Kerley (USA) took another second place in the 100m clocking 9.78 seconds. Unfortunately the wind proved a little too strong so this will not count as a new PB. World Leader Trayvon Bromell (USA) was fourth in 9.86 seconds.
World 200m Champion Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) showed that she is continuing to get back towards her best form after the hamstring injury that disrupted her Olympic preparations by taking third place in the 200m. As a former Oregon Duck Jenna Prandini (USA) received a very warm welcome from the home crowd and she finished a couple of metres back in fourth as they clocked 22.19 and 22.36 seconds respectively.
Shamier Little (USA) finished strongly in the 400m hurdles and placed second in 53.79 seconds. Hellen Obiri (KEN) contested the less frequently run 2 miles and was third in 9:14.55. Matthew Centrowitz (USA) was ninth in the famous Bowerman Mile with a time of 3:53.32.
