Classy night of Athletics at the Weltklasse
29th August 2019 – At the end of the Diamond League series, the two finals are held in Zurich and Brussels. Athletes accumulate points throughout the season to qualify for these events and earn the right to challenge for the title of Diamond League Champion.
At the first finals evening incorporated into the famous Weltklasse meet in Zurich, Shamier Little (USA) took her spot amongst the 400m hurdles finalists and ran a very strong race taking second position in 53.86 seconds.
Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) had run seven Diamond League races up to this point of the season and not finished outside the top three positions; she wasn’t going to start tonight in the 200m. After again running a very fast turn, Dina maintained her form through to the finish to take second position in a seasons best time of 22.08 seconds.
Winny Chebet (KEN) was in the women’s 1500m where after an usually slow third lap the athletes found themselves almost tripping over each other but launching big kicks over the final 400m. Winny wound up in sixth position in 4:03.11.
