Success for Shamier and Jenna
7th February 2021 – PACE athletes were all to the fore at the third leg of the American Indoor Track League in Arkansas on Sunday.
Shamier Little (USA) and Jenna Prandini (USA) had performed well at this venue in their college days and both of them looked at home here as they took commanding victories in the 400m and 200m respectively. Shamier swept to the front of the 400m and only extended her lead on the second lap to record an indoor PB of 51.33 seconds. Having already finished sixth in the 60m final Jenna then took to the track for the 200m, the event in which she is a two-time US Champion. She powered through the first 100m and maintained a healthy lead up to the finish to win in 22.55 seconds.
After his stunning performance in the first round of this league, Trayvon Bromell (USA) had to settle for second on this occasion but still recorded 6.58 seconds in the 60m final.
Across the Atlantic in Metz, Bethwel Birgen (KEN) gave another example of his great shape when taking second place in the 1500m. Indeed, it took a fine run by World Indoor and Outdoor silver medallist Selemon Barega to just edge him out but Bethwel still ran his second fastest indoor 1500m ever of 3:34.67.
Making early appearances outdoors, Sinclaire Johnson (USA) and Winny Chebet (KEN) both took 800m victories. At the Prickly Pear Invitational in Arizona Sinclaire ran negative splits to win in 2:01.70 and at the AK Relays Series in Nairobi Winny was the victor in 2:03.72.
