Shannon Rowbury 2nd in Continental Cup
14th September 2014 – Competing for Americas and Africa Shannon Rowbury (USA) and Hellen Obiri (KEN) placed 2nd and 4th in the 1500m in the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakesh. In a tactical race where 800m was passed in 2:18 Sifan Hassan (NED) was fastest over the final lap clocking 4:05.99 (42.8 last 300m) to win from Rowbury (4:07.21), Dawit Seyaum (4:07.61) and Obiri (4:08.15).
In a blanket finish at the Fifth Avenue mile in New York Matthew Centrowitz (USA) was 6th in the men’s race in 3:52.4 (winner 3:51.0). In the women’s race Jordan Hasay (USA) looked great running at the front for most of the race only to be swallowed up in the final 200m eventually getting 8th in a PB 4:23.9 just ahead of Mary Cain (USA) who placed 10th in 4:25.5. In her final race before retirement Diane Cummins (CAN) was 16th in 4:40.2.
