PACE success over cross-country
22nd November 2015 – There was a hat-trick of victories for PACE athletes in major European cross-country races over this past weekend.
Timothy Toroitich (UGA) is building himself quite a reputation on the Spanish cross-country circuit as he took yet another victory, this time in Soria. In the past year he has taken victories in Alcobendos, Venta de Banos and Amorebieta and this was the second time he has won in Soria. He travels to Alcobendos next week to try and defend his title there.
Another athlete to win in Soria for the second time was Linet Masai (KEN). Linet won here for the first time in 2009 but having battled injury for the past 18 months saw this as a big step forward in getting herself back to the form which has seen her win three individual world cross-country medals and a world title on the track.
Completing the trio of victories for PACE athletes was former European Junior cross-country champion Stephanie Twell (GBR). Taking the opportunity to run on the course in Hyeres which will be used to run the European Championships next month, Steph moved away in the final stages of the 4km race to take a comfortable win.
In Kenya, Nancy Chepkwemoi (KEN) showed her winter training is going well with by taking third place in the latest round of the competitive Athletics Kenya series. Racing over 8km, well above her usual 1500m Nancy showed good endurance to compete with the more specialist cross-country runners.
