No place like home for Matt
18th August 2019 – European 400m Champion Matthew Hudson-Smith (GBR) made a belated start to his 2019 season but there was no better place for him to do it than in front of his home crowd at the IAAF Diamond League event held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England.
Despite his lack of recent race practice, Matt ran a very good race to finish third in 45.55 seconds and provide lots of reasons for optimism for the rest of his season.
The highlight of the meeting was undoubtedly the women’s 200m where Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) was one of the many stars on show. As always Dina gave the home crowd something to shout about competing all the way to line to take second place in 22.36 seconds.
Next up for both Matt and Dina will be the British World Championship trials next weekend.
