10th June 2021 – The staging of the European Football Championships meant that Rome was not able to host its usual World Athletics Diamond League meeting and so instead attention switched to Florence.
Despite the change of venue World 200m Champion Dina Asher-Smith showed that she is very much on the ball with another dominant display. After storming round the bend to head the field into the straight, she extended her lead all the way home taking victory in a new meeting record of 22.06 seconds, the third fastest time of her career.
Matthew Hudson-Smith (GBR) placed third in the 400m with a time of 45.93 seconds and Ciara Mageean (IRL) ran a season’s best of 4:04.32 in a high quality 1500m.
There is now a short break in the Diamond League circuit while multiple Olympic Trials take place, but the Athletics world will reconvene in Oslo on July 1st.
