Fred learns his lesson
18th May 2019 – At the IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai last year Fred Kerley was making his Diamond League debut and felt that he didn’t get out hard enough leaving himself a bit too much work to do.
Fast forward a year and it was clear to see he wasn’t going to make the same mistake again as he dominated the men’s 400m. Always in control and looking strong to the end he ran 44.81 seconds to win the opening event in this year’s series. Bralon Taplin (GRN) put himself in contention coming into the final straight but just lost a couple of places in the final few strides to take fifth in 45.93.
On the women’s side Jenna Prandini (USA) clocked 11.19 seconds for fifth place in the 100m and Winny Chebet (KEN) placed seventh in a high-quality women’s 1500m in 4:02.94. Both promising performances at what is still the early stages of a very long season.
