Ciara and Bethwel march on
15th February 2020 – Ciara Mageean (IRL) and Bethwel Birgen (KEN) both continued their excellent indoor form with victories in their latest races.
Firstly, Ciara delighted the home crowd at the AIT International in Athlone with a dominant display over 3000m. Taking the lead once the pacemaker had dropped out at 1500m (4:28) Ciara controlled the pace and then showed fine strength and speed over the final 200m to win in a new personal best of 8:48.27.
Bethwel ran a near perfect race in the 1500m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour event in Glasgow. Sat behind the two pacemakers for much of the race, he was never boxed in and looked comfortable throughout before finally taking the opportunity to move clear over the last lap. Bethwel eased across the line in new 2020 World Leading time of 3:36.22.
Both athletes will next travel to Madrid where they will contest the 3000m in final event of the World Athletics Indoor Tour.
