Another barrier overcome by Shamier
10th April 2021 – Shamier Little (USA) is proving to be quite a thorn in the sides of athletics statisticians currently, as whenever she steps on the track she is breaking new ground.
On this occasion, at the Miramar Invitation in Florida, Shamier again competed over the 400m flat, and not only won the race but also went sub 50 seconds for the first time, recording 49.91. To put the icing on another successful outing this made Shamier only the second female in history to run sub 50 seconds in the 400m flat AND sub 53 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
Jenna Prandini (USA) also showed that she is top shape as she won a high quality 200m. Leading into the straight Jenna held off all challenges, including that of reigning Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah to win in 22.39 seconds.
From the sunshine of Florida to the snow of the UK, Ciara Mageean (IRL) faced unseasonably cold conditions at the BMC Road Race series in Cheshire. However, racing over 5km Ciara showed she is made of strong stuff as she took victory in 16:10.
