Galen tunes up
9th February 2020 – In three weeks one of the most eagerly anticipated races of the year will take place as the US Olympic Marathon trials will be contested in Atlanta. Reigning Olympic Bronze medallist Galen Rupp (USA) showed that he is ready to earn his place on the Olympic Team again with a nice run out at the Meza Half Marathon in Arizona on Saturday.
It was Galen’s first run since he was forced to withdraw from the Chicago Marathon in October of last year but he showed no signs of rust or the calf injury that plagued him that day as he moved smoothly over the course and to a comfortable victory. Galen timed 61:19 and ticked all the boxes he needed to with the bigger goal on the horizon.
At the Caceres Cross Country in Spain where the event was marking its 50th Anniversary, Thomas Ayeko (UGA) once again put in a very strong run that saw him record a comfortable victory over the 10km course. Thomas never looked troubled as he came in 24 seconds clear of the runner up.
At the indoor meet in Metz, Vincent Kibet (KEN) suffered the unusual fete of losing to an athlete of the same name as Vincent Kibet Keter edged him into second place in the 1500m.
Finally, to complete the full set of surfaces competed on over the weekend, Ristananna Tracey (JAM) won the 400m at the Camperdown Classic in a time of 53.97 seconds. Kemar Bailey-Cole (JAM) also ventured out over the 1 lap distance clocking 47.52 seconds.
