Timothy keeps the title with PACE
29th October 2019 – Timothy Toroitich (UGA) ensured that the Great Scottish Run was won by a PACE athlete for the third year in a row.
The half marathon held on the streets of Glasgow managed to avoid the rain sweeping across much of the UK and Timothy was soon into stride. A seventh mile run in 4:28 moved him clear from the lead pack and his lead only grew as he moved through to the finish. Timothy crossed the line in 61:29 and showed he is already in good shape for the racing block he has coming up.
Just in case Timothy had has let his concentration slip, Micah Kogo (KEN) was pursuing him in second place and he finished just under one minute behind in 62:28.
The winner for the past two years Chris Thompson (GBR) was not able to make it a hat trick of wins but was still the first British finisher in seventh place.
At the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Hellen Obiri (KEN) was in contention for a medal deep into the 10,000m final, but it wasn’t to be on this occasion, and she ended in fifth pace. Stephanie Twell (GBR) took a small detour in her marathon training and competed well for fifteenth place.
