15th May 2016 – After 18 months away from the sport following the birth of her first child, former World Championship bronze medallist Hellen Obiri (KEN) made a very positive return at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai.
Running over 1500m Hellen showed she had lost none of her tactical prowess as she navigated her way through the field and finished strongly to take second place in 3:59.34. Nancy Chepkwmoi (KEN) took eighth in 4:05.22.
Another athlete who missed much of last season is Matthew Hudson-Smith (GBR) but he also had a very encouraging opening race in Rehlingen. Still only 21, the European silver medallist took victory over 400m in 46.14 seconds.
