PB start to the year for Steph

19th January 2020 – At the end of 2019 Steph Twell (GBR) ran a PB for the marathon, so what better way to start 2020 than with a PB for the half-marathon!

The organisers of the World Athletics gold label Aramco Houston Half Marathon had assembled a field of incredible depth that saw PB’s and National Records being set all the wat down the results.  Steph made the decision pre-race that she was going to race the race rather than the clock and this paid dividends.  After passing 5k in 16:21 Steph was almost metronomic in her pacing as she then proceeded to go through 10k in 32:27, 15km in 48:40 and 20km in 65:20.  A strong finish saw her cross the line in eighth position with her first sub 70 clocking as she recorded a time of 68:55.

At the World Athletics Cross-Country permit meeting in Seville, Hellen Obiri (KEN) was not able to repeat her victory of last week as a small back injury hampered her progress on the final lap.  She finished in fourth position on this occasion.
