Koech, Korir & Kiptoo win Armed Forces titles

Justus Koech, Shedrack Korir and Mark Kiptoo (all KEN) made it a PACE clean sweep of the 800m, 1500m and 5000m titles in the Kenyan Armed Forces T&F Championships today.

2003 World Championships 800m finalist Justus Koech took his speciality event in a time of 1:46.5 having earlier in the day placed 3rd in the 1500m final. In yesterday’s heats he won both his 800m & 1500m semi final. Fresh from a 3:32 opening 1500m run in Doha last week Shedrack Korir took the 1500m title in a tactical 3:45. In the 5000m Mark Kiptoo won the race to the line in a time of 13:43, just ahead of training partners Sammy Kipketer (3rd) and Shadrack Kosgei (4th).

Kiptoo will make his track debut in Europe next week in Belgrade. Previously he placed 4th in the Kenyan Cross Country Championships, 12th in the World Cross Trial, 3rd in Marseille 10k and 4th in Heillecourt. In yesterday’s 10,000m final Sammy Kipketer placed 2nd to Tom Nyariki with World Cross Country representative Barnabas Kosgei in 3rd.
