Hellen Obiri starts 2017 in style

7th January 2016 – Olympic silver medallist Hellen Obiri (KEN) started the New Year in the perfect way with victory at the Campaccio Cross-Country race in Italy.

Racing against a high-quality field that included Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon and the reigning World Cross-Country champion Agens Tirop, Hellen confirmed that is she in great shape taking victory by 3 seconds.

At the annual Great Edinburgh Cross-Country event Sir Mo Farah (GBR) was not able to lead the British team to victory on this occasion. Mo finished in seventh position in the men’s race while Steph Twell (GBR) was thirteenth in the women’s race as the British team finished in third position behind the USA and the European select.

After the race Mo told the media that “It was a hard day at the office. I’m a little bit behind where I would usually be at this stage of the season. But I’m not panicking this early on in the year – I’ve got to get ready for London 2017.”
