Galen bounces back
10th October 2021 – Just nine weeks after competing in the Tokyo Olympic Games Marathon, Galen Rupp (USA) finished in a magnificent second place in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning.
In challenging hot and humid conditions Galen used his experience to sit back off the fast early pace but still passed halfway in 62:40. The second half saw the leading group dwindle in size as several athletes paid the price for their early exertions until it was left to just three to race it out for the win.
Over the final 3km it was Ethiopian athlete Seifu Tura who had the greater turn of speed but Galen showed a real return to form by securing second place in 2:06:35. The third fastest time of his career and the sixth fastest ever by an American.
