Marathon PB for Moses Kipsiro
28th May 2017 – Moses Kipsiro (UGA) continues to improve by the race over the marathon distance, and he was desperately unlucky not to take his first podium in Ottawa.
A lead group of 6 was led through halfway by the pacemakers in 63:40, but then that group started to split as the tougher sections of the course took their toll. First 5, then 4 were left entering the last 10k. Eluid Kiptanui pushed for the win which he would ultimately get, but Moses tried to go with him. Potentially his desire to win may have cost him in the last 3k, but he was still cruelly passed in the last 10m to move from third to fourth. However, a PB of 2:10:49 and another positive experience will make the hunger even greater next time.
After taking second in the British 10,000m trials last week, Steph Twell (GBR) moved all the way down the 1 mile this week at the British Road Championships. Steph was the one to push on from halfway, but just couldn’t hang on over the final stages. She still took a fine sixth place with some important track races on the horizon.
