21st October 2018 – History was made on Sunday morning as Chris Thompson (GBR) became the first man ever to win three Great South Run titles in a row.

Not only that, but like a fine win Chris just continues to get better with age and he took this victory in a new personal best of 46:56 (for 10 miles) and gave himself the best confidence boost going into the New York Marathon in two weeks’ time. Steph Twell (GBR) also showed good road form finishing second in the women’s race in 55:16.

Making her marathon debut in Amsterdam was former World 10,000m Champion Linet Masai (KEN) and she showed she is learning quickly with a controlled and patient run. Passing halfway in tenth position in 72:01 Linet moved through the field and ran a negative split to ultimately finish fifth in 2:23:46, only an agonising 32 seconds behind the winner.

After several injury problems it was good to see Emmnauel Bett (KEN) back in action at the Delhi Half Marathon, finishing in ninth position in a high quality field with a time of 60:47.
