Farah & Idowu win in Birmingham Diamond League

Mo Farah (GBR) and Phillips Idowu (GBR) were the stars of the show for the home fans in the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Birmingham. Farah took victory in the 5000m with a scintillating last lap of 54.0 seconds to win in 13:06.14 from training partner Galan Rupp (USA) and World Cross Country Champion Image Merga (ETH). Idowu won the triple jump with a best of 17.54m in round three to beat a quality field including World Indoor Record holder Teddy Tamgho (FRA). Having competed three times in 2011 Idowu leads 2-1 – the pair will meet again in Monaco next week.

Rosemarie Whyte (JAM) finished 2nd in the 400m in 50.82 secs behind world number one Amantle Monsho (BOT). Behind the Bert Cameron coached athlete were a large number of the medal contenders for Daegu including Novlene Williams, Sanya Richards and Debbie Dunn.

In France Rhys Williams (GBR) was close to his season best with a 49.66 secs winning 400mH run in Chambery. In Belgium Nicola Sanders (GBR) placed 3rd in the 400m in the Brussels Grand Prix. Kemar Bailey- Cole (JAM) finished 2nd in the Dublin International 100m.
